Knot Just Pics are a Durban based soon-to-be husband and wife team (Szerdi and Andy) who take quirky, in-the-moment photographs of weddings, engaged couples, babies and special moments. In their own words: “We believe that your wedding is not just about the pictures taken on the day, but the process of the day, the emotions felt by everyone and trying to reflect that in the pictures. It is easy to have pretty pictures but it’s a skill to capture the feeling and emotion and atmosphere of the wedding experience.”
Here’s what they have to say about their take on weddings, as well as a few of their favourite pics:
1. What do you offer to those planning their weddings?
We try to make our wedding photos reflect the personalities of the couples we are shooting, while providing a friendly and comfortable environment and service.
2. What makes Knot Just Pics different?
We really love to get to know the couple we are shooting first. This is great for two reasons: if you feel comfortable around your photographers (who you’ll be spending more time with than virtually anyone else on the big day!) you will feel more relaxed. A relaxed bride and groom lead to natural and fun photos. Secondly, we’re not big on photographers who just take their style and apply it to any couple, whether or not it really works for them. By getting to know our clients, we can ensure that their photos become a true reflection of who they are.
3. Why did you choose to focus on weddings?
We LOVE weddings! I mean, who doesn’t? They are some of the happiest and most joyful times in people’s lives! We love being a part of creating memories that reflect this awesome occasion. Andy has a fine art degree in photography and I have always had a love for creating beautiful images.
We chose weddings because through planning our own wedding (which we’re doing at the moment) we were inspired by some of the incredible photographers in South Africa. We realised that in KwaZulu/Natal, despite the plethora of photographers, only a handful produced the kind of photos we would want at our own wedding: an artistic reflection of the couple with a side order of documentary style.
After realising many of these amazing photographers were well out of our small budget, we recognized there must be couples out there that are looking for the same thing we were….. And so far, we seem to be right!
4. What advice do you have for brides who are planning their weddings?
Being both a future bride planning my own wedding and a wedding photographer, I can say that you need to think about what is important to you and your partner when planning your wedding. Don’t include things you don’t want just because you think weddings are supposed to have x,y and z. Rather let your wedding be a reflection of who you and your partner are, and what you love. On the day, a relaxed bride is a happy bride, so delegate on the day and focus on basking in the love of your family, friends, and most importantly, your new Mr or Mrs! Oh, and don’t forget to eat on the day! It’s amazing how easy it can be to forget that…
5. My favourite part of a wedding is…
The overwhelming love and joy on the day. But my absolute favourite, is catching glimpses of unposed moments between the couple when they think no one is looking, which show how head over heels they are with each other!
6. I love weddings because…
They are such a symbol of all things that are good and right with the world… I always leave a wedding full of joy and optimism. Happy people, loving couples, a great party and the promise of a bright and exciting future! What could be better?
7. My number one tip for wedding photography is…
Relax, try to have fun and just take joy in the moment! If you do that, you are guaranteed great pics!

8. My favourite wedding trend with photography is…
We are very keen on (subtle) vintage-y photos, but our all-time fave must be documentary style photography.

Get in touch with this inspired pair on their website.
Until next time!
Muchlove,
Bridget
