I absolutely love these pix by photographers Jacqui and Wes of Maurice & Magpie - they feature Antony and Wendy – two lovebirds who are planning on getting married next year

Tell us about the significance of the venue you chose for your engagement pix?

One of Ant’s nicknames is Google as he has an amazing general knowledge – you ask a question and Google will most likely provide you with an answer. So, having a photo shoot in a place that is a shrine to knowledge was an apt venue. I love reading and have many books at home. I also love to write and would like to be an author of some sort. We liked the idea of being surrounded by stories.

    Tell us about the proposal?

I was told that Ant was going to be taking me out for dinner and that I had to get dressed up which meant wearing heels. Ant would not let the secret of where we were going passed his lips which irked me as I loathe surprises. But this was an incredible surprise because Ant had booked a table for us at the Roma Revolving Restaurant. I had never been and I thought that this was a truly special birthday.

After dinner, he suggested that we go back to the SkyDeck. One should know that my birthday is in the middle of winter and winter nights can be chilly in Durban and hence I was a bit reluctant to venture into the chilled sea-breeze about twenty storeys up. He then began to start the most heart-felt soliloquy that any man has set forth into the world. He sat next to me and asked me to share his life and be a part of it forever. And I said yes.

What are your plans for your wedding?

Our wedding is going to be held in Cato Ridge at an Edwardian-style homestead. The reason for this is that we wanted a timeless feel to the day and loved the garden grounds of the farm. We are taking inspiration from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Alice through the Looking Glass’. We are going to have some croquet on the lawns and some interesting focal points that will allow the guests to mingle and get to know one another so that they learn who is who in the family that is being joined together. We are hoping that we can make this day as personal and filled with love for those coming as what we imagining that we are.
