Who knows where the idea to paint up a menagerie of very fugly ceramics for our wedding table decor came from but i was thrilled with the result. I gave myself a R30/animal ceiling on buying trips and i trawled charity shops, bric n’ brac stores and the good old Milnerton Market for suitable ceramics that had been hit with the ugly stick.
this is what they looked like before their makeover
they were sprayed up for me by a fabulous friend
afterwards they looked like this
at the wedding we scattered them around the table
and now we have some at home (the bulldogs are my favourite and they’re surprisingly easy to find too – you can just as easily spray paint with store bought spray paint in the colour of your choice)
The moral of the story: fugly can become beautiful and you don’t have to spend a fortune to create something that makes a lasting impression.
